HI GUYS does anyone still read this journal? okay I've been planning to make a real post for a while now and I guess I still will probably but I'm not right now because it takes too long!
BASICALLY I would like to ask that anyone who is a citizen of the United States to go here and contact all your elected officials (president, two senators, representative) and ask that they not acknowledge Ahmahdinejad's victory in Iran as legitimate. ...and if you're not a citizen of the U.S., then please ask your own personal government the same! 8)v
(if you're not sure what's going on, the past few days of coverage at the Daily Dish will help.)
YES I'm aware sending e-mails to congresspeople isn't exactly going to. Accomplish much. BUT I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING AAAAARGH /destroys furniture |

Uh, I don't know what else to write about. I want to write something about my granddad and extended family, but there's too much to say right now. (Maybe mentioning it here will be the charm that enables me to actually write it at some point instead of just vaguely planning to write it for the rest of my life.) I would, however, like to point out that I have 32 cousins, and will be 24 in a little under six hours.

| | The Raveonettes - Untamed Girls | ] | So I guess I haven't posted in a while or whatever?? I'll just mention a few things.
First thing: I got a lot of great presents for Christmas! Among the best: ten cases of Dublin Dr Pepper (that is, Dr Pepper made with pure cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup). My parents actually drove up to the part of Texas where they sell it in stores (everywhere within a 44-mile radius of Dublin) to get it for me ;w;!!
Second thing: I TOTALLY MISSED THE INAUGURATION. I-I thought it was going to happen in the evening!! oAo I youtube'd it later, though. Besides, I was too busy being at the dentist to have watched it live, even if I had known it was going on. :x
Third thing: My granddad passed away Wednesday morning. His health had been failing for a while, and he was able to die peacefully with all his children around him. As a sickly teenager, he was told by a doctor that he wouldn't make it to twenty, and it's taken seventy years for the "screw you" to finish loading. He managed to live long enough to achieve his last major goals--to vote for Barack Obama, and then to see his inauguration--but not so long that he was forced to move in with my aunt Izzy and her obnoxious husband Doug.
Obviously, it hasn't hit me yet at all. I guess 'denial' can last a while. :| Still, thoughts and prayers (especially for my grandmom, my mom, and the other kids) are always appreciated.
Other crap: I've finally gotten around to watching Avatar straight through instead of just catching a few episodes here and there; I'm almost to the end of season 2, so here is the requisite ( unordered list of my thoughts thus far. )
( animu meme--for the hell of it )
Final thought: Is there anything more insufferable and masturbatory than poems about poetry? |

WINAMP NEEDS A FUCKING UNDO BUTTON
this is like, the second time in a month (and the 2,395,294th time in my life) that I've accidentally opened some download in Winamp / hit the wrong button and removed everything except the current item instead of removing the current item, and ended up with MY PLAYLIST GONE. I've gotten back in the habit of saving my playlist pretty regularly, so I don't think I've lost anything off it that I'll have to go hunting down in some obscure directory, but... MOTHERFUCKER!! (especially since I was gradually remembering to take off Nobuo Uematsu tracks that I don't like all that much, and thus preventing my last.fm stats from being insanely biased towards his stuff, and now all my good work is UNDONE) (well maybe now I'll fucking save my current playlist after every single time I remove an item!!! just to teach them a lesson!!) Necessary preludes: 1) Hans is amazing and wonderful; likewise, Tokyo. 2) I didn't have a camera, so my parents lent me theirs for the trip. I had no real idea of how to properly work the damn thing and I still don't. I suck at cameras and my pictures are horrible. (Just FYI.) |

| | Debussy - La cathédrale engloutie | ] | GUYS. I am in a really good mood today, and I have no idea why. I mean, it's not like anything bad has happened to me that means I should be sad, but seriously, there is no reason for me to be this upbeat. Which one of you drugged me? Because I like it!
I want to make it known that Pascal Rogé's interpretation of the tempo in Clair de lune gives the distinct impression that he is slipping into a coma at the piano. Like, I know that if I'd heard his version of it first, I'd think the other one I've heard (which, by the way, I have no idea who played; I picked up the mp3 on the sparsely-labeled down-low years ago, so I was just glad it didn't say it was composed by Bob Dylan. Plus, I don't actually have it on my computer anymore since I lost most of my music when my hard drive crashed, so THERE'S NO WAY FOR ME TO DO RESEARCH!) was freakishly overcaffeinated and all, but... c'mon, P-Rog! Dunk your head in cold water and show some whimsy! 8|
Oh, but in other Pascal Rogé news, I found out that the sparsely-labeled mp3s of Cloches à travers les feuilles and Et la lune descend sur le temple qui fut I found myself with years ago were his versions! (So at least he plays those ones right!)
Also, I... kind of have a crush on Rahm Emanuel. :x (Granted, he's basically a swarthy, Jewish Tim Roth who volunteers with the IDF and mails people dead fish instead of making increasingly questionable decisions in the film industry, so it was probably always only a matter of time.) |

In any case it takes less energy to write up some of my thoughts on The Dark Knight, which I had always planned to see in a vague way but then went to see much more concretely due (1) to Hans having seen it, failed to dissolve in fits of ecstasy over its brilliance in the manner of most others in our peer group, and imploring me to see it and return my opinion so he could determine whether he was taking crazy pills, and (2) to all the cousins mounting an expedition to go see it when we were in Farmington a couple of weeks ago for a family reunion.

[Jul. 2nd, 2008|11:19 pm] |
So I've been kind of planning for a while now to get a new computer-- although I've made some upgrades to my current machine (second drive, extra RAM, new ethernet port to replace one that got fried... new monitor... new keyboard... new mouse...), it's over six years old, and in computer years, that's pretty old. Plus the main hard drive has been kind of iffy for a while now. Then a month or so ago, it got so it wouldn't start up... I managed to Recovery Console my way to glory back then, but the same damn thing happened two nights ago, and I've had no luck since then.
At first I was like, "ummm, I'll just buy a nice new hard drive and install Windows on that... then I can just transfer it to the new computer I shall someday be able to afford!" ... except the only kind of drive I can put in my current machine is one with an ATA/100 interface (as opposed to SATA), and I don't want to deliberately purchase outdated technology just to keep propping up more outdated technology. :/ (Nor do I want to waste money on an adapter to make the outdated and current technology play nice.) SO I decided to suck it up and have something custom-built! (I ALSO CONSIDERED CUSTOM-BUILDING IT MYSELF, but I lack confidence and occasionally fail to be detail-oriented. Also, Altex doesn't charge for assembly, only parts. So booyah.)
I've ordered a 500-gig Seagate drive from Newegg (drives are significantly cheaper there than at Altex-- the model I got was $85, whereas a 320-gig Seagate at Altex is $95-- plus I got free shipping, bitches!). So it'll be three (ish) business days before that comes in... then it'll be three to five more days for Altex to actually put it together. So yeah, I'm looking at... a while... without my own computer.
It's not that bad, since I can use mom's. ... Only she's got IE 6 for a browser... and not only does the lack of tabs distress me, but for some reason Gmail refreshes the inbox at an extremely leisurely pace. I have to keep clicking 'inbox' if I want to see new messages in a timely manner. ... Also, she plays Spider Solitaire with four suits! (Four suits!)
tl;dr I shall soon be getting the following PC made:- Thermaltake Wing RS 101 (case)
- Asus 4600+ X2 Dual Core MB
- 1GIG DDR 800MHz (2)
- Liteon SATA DVD+/-RW BK LS
- Seagate 500GB SATA-II 3GB/s
- Windows XP Professional (I have my own copy)
Total cost: ~$500. WHO HAS APPLICABLE KNOWLEDGE / SUGGESTIONS / CRITIQUE? :> |

( According to The Big Read, the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books on their list. )
I didn't italicise that many, because honestly, I don't know which ones I "intend" to read. I kinda figure I'll read 'em if I read 'em. :'D Also, who put this list together? I can detect no organisational pattern whatsoever. These can't seriously be a top 100, like, with the best one being #1 or something, right?? They included The Da Vinci Code, for god's sake! (GJ on listing The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe separately, too.) You are now probably an official member of my rogues gallery, The Big Read.
( His Dark Materials )
My paid account ran out a while ago, so all my userpics except six became 'inactive' (since my extra userpic time extends longer than my paid time did, they weren't just deleted). Only it turns out the six that got saved (default + the five I'd most recently used for entries) aren't really my favourites... :( There's no way to go in to my userpics and choose which six I want to be active / make the ones I don't like inactive, so the only way to get back one of the ones I like at this point is to delete one of my 'actives,' delete the inactive version of the one I want, and completely reupload it. Apart from being stupid, this is also too many steps for my lazy self to go through (also I have no idea where on my computer some of those icons are saved, lol). ... So yeah. :D
p.s. this is not a veiled 'someone buy me more paid time pleeeeeease~?' request! please do not buy me more paid time. ¦D
p.p.s. that was not an attempt to use reverse-psychology to get someone to buy me more paid time.
p.p.p.s. probably.
p.p.p.p.s. but seriously, don't do it. |

It's a Samsung Gleam. ... but after shelling out like $50 extra for the memory card and 'Music Essentials Kit' so I could also use it an mp3 player (since I haven't got one), I have run into nothing but frustration. The damn thing won't connect at all on my computer (even though I install everything the way I'm supposed to, and the computer actually says 'oh, new hardware! ... okay, it's installed and working properly! :)'), and while on mom's I got it to work (WHICH MAKES NO SENSE BECAUSE IT'S THE EXACT SAME FRICKING DRIVERS), it... freezes partway through transferring music onto it... at which point the phone goes completely catatonic, and won't work at all unless I remove and replace the battery. The music that's already been transferred, while it shows up in the 'my music' menu when I check the memory card usage on the phone itself, can't be played. Any attempts to access it through the 'music library' menu (or to finish transferring music through the music manager utility on the PC) cause it to completely freeze up again. FORMATTING THE MEMORY CARD SOLVES THE PROBLEM... ... until partway through the next attempt to put music onto it, at which point the fabulous little rondo begins anew. I'm all troubleshot out, so I'm just going to (g-gently) slam it down on the counter at the Verizon store and say "MAKE IT WORK. =_= "
But more importantly, guys, listen up... don't forget. Believe in yourself. Not you, who believes in me. Not me, who believes in you. Believe in you, who believes in yourself. |

but seriously, this last Wednesday I somehow contracted a mysterious killer virus that kept me up until 6 in the morning vomiting, having ____, and thinking that honestly, what's so bad about (the sweet release of) death anyway? The actual symptoms pretty much ran their course over those twelve hours or so, but they were so severe that I spent most of Thursday and Friday in a dehydrated, unconscious heap. I'm still slightly what you might call 'weakened,' but I feel comfortable saying I've made an 87% recovery! (I think I misled Angela and mom by telling them on Thursday that I felt '100% better' despite the fact that I was obviously still in pretty rough shape; it was just that I'd been so goddamn miserable all the night before that it seemed disingenuous to claim I only felt 50% or something better than that when all I had to deal with anymore were things like headaches and dizziness.)
